Voice

Anderson University Recital 2018

Singing is a beautiful and intricate art, and vocal training consists of many components over an extended period of time.  The following list is an overview of what will happen in weekly lessons: breathing, vocalizing the voice, learning a variety of music, proper tone quality, intonation, dynamics, diction, extending the vocal range, interpretation, expression, and performance. Each student’s voice will have something unique on which to work, which makes teaching and learning to sing so enjoyable.

Most voice lessons consist of a half hour, sometimes longer depending on the maturity of the voice, and are held on a weekly basis.  The student will be expected to purchase music books within the first few weeks of lessons and bring them to each lesson.  It is also best practice to prepare audition songs for competitions, musical and operatic roles, weddings, and other pertinent performances during lessons.

Many former students have performed leading operatic and musical roles both nationally and internationally.  They have won local, regional and international competitions, have performed for cruise ships and amusement parks.  Many are currently teaching at the collegiate and public school levels.  Current students are singing professionally for opera companies and ensembles, performing leading roles in musicals at recognized theatres, receiving Golds at ISSMA and winning prestigious vocal and choral competitions.
